Everyone of these spores waits for us to make a mistake, that is to add water sufficient for it to germinate and subsequently devour the wood of our buildings with failing carrying capacity as a consequence. All this is a part of the cycle in nature, but in a building it is rather unfortunate. Architects and engeneers are able to calculate the carrying capacity of timber rather precisely, but when the moisture content exeeds 20% and fungi start their decay the calculations no longer holds true.
